The artistic representation of a persons profile and personality has been around for centuries. It’s called the portrait. Portraits come in all different shapes, sizes, colors, textures and places making them extremely personalized. Take a look at this:
The portrait is much more than just the typical “profile picture” seen on most social media pages. If you take a look at the image above again, you’ll notice her expression, her dress, her jewelry, the open book in her hand (maybe it’s a bible?) and her hair. It says a lot about this person, and we don’t even know who she is! These portraits were hung in homes, and stayed there for centuries until it was either sold to a museum, passed on to family members, destroyed in war, etc.
What this portrait is missing is an integral part to what was the norm back then: a frame. It looked more like this on one’s wall:
Now, on to what this post was meant to be. Modern photography portraits and their use. Let me just say: we’re bringing the portrait back.
As you can see, these portraits are in Black and White, but don’t necessarily have to be. My personal opinion is that the color draws away from the expression of the subject. UNLESS, you mount your picture on Acrylic (Where the color jumps out and calls the attention from every detail). Here:
